THE MASS by Cardinal Donald Wuerl and Mike Aquilina
Doubleday In this book, we are guided through the different parts of the Sacred Liturgy, from the procession to the final dismissal. All the basic parts of the Mass are carefully explained from a historical and spiritual perspective. There are explanations on the use of bread and wine, water and candles and there is a really helpful guide to the use of the liturgical books. There is also an easy to follow explanation of the use of liturgical vestments, the prayers and the various liturgical gestures. The authors demonstrate that every word and gesture has a history, a significance and a meaning. There are well arranged pictures to help us in our understanding of the Sacrifice of the Mass and we are wonderfully reminded that the Mass is what Catholics "do" because it is the saving work of Christ, really and truly made present for us. What a privilege! There is indeed nothing more important that The Church does and the Mass needs to be the spiritual centre of our lives. The book has been described as an essential how, what when and why of the Mass. I agree |
